___________________________________________________ Do you happen to suffer from bad breath? These guidelines will help you significantly reduce or eliminate all together your halitosis. If you experience chronic or long-term bad breath, perhaps it would be best to consult your dentist or doctor as there may be a serious underlying cause for this embarrassing condition. Here is how you can prevent bad breath:
• You can prevent bad breath by both brushing your teeth and flossing them twice daily especially after you have eaten a meal that contains spices and food that are known to cause bad breath. Either use a tongue scraper or brush your tongue along with your teeth in order to remove any trapped food and plaque that may be caught in the tongue’s tiny hair-like fibers. Finish brushing your teeth by thoroughly rinsing your mouth with mouthwash or water.
• Prevent halitosis by visiting your dentist regularly, which is usually about every six months or soon if this is indicated by your dentist. This will include a thorough cleaning by the dental hygienist and have the dentist come in to examine your teeth and gums.
• You can prevent bad breath by having any dental problems treated as they crop up such as gum abscesses, tooth decay, and abscessed teeth.
• One simple way to prevent bad breath is to chew a sprig of parsley after a meal. Chlorophyll is contained in the parsley, which is known as a breath freshener.
• Get some tee tree oil or peppermint oil and place a few drops on your tongue. You may use the oil on your toothbrush along with your regular toothpaste. Try to select a toothpaste or a mouth rinse that contains these two natural oils, which happen to be known for their antibacterial properties. You will find that these two things will help you fight halitosis-causing bacteria.
• If you are a smoker, then try to take the necessary steps to lick this bad habit. This is the only way that you will be able to stop bad breath. Cigarette smoking is responsible for periodontal disease.
• Avoid foods that are known to cause bad breath, such as onions, certain spices, garlic, cabbage, and coffee.
• If you have a dry mouth, this is known as zerostomia. This is a major factor when you have bad breath. Try to sip water during the day and with your meals. Chew sugar-free gum or try sucking on a piece of sugar-free candy so that you will produce more saliva.
• When you use sugarless gum, breath strips, mints or breath spray, this may increase the amount of saliva that flows in your mouth in order to keep it cleansed throughout the day. It will leave a minty, crisp aroma in your mouth instead of your bad breath. You must remember that even though these products will freshen your breath, the effects are usually short-lived and probably will not eliminate bad breath all together. If you happen to be using breath fresheners regularly, consider products that contain xylitol, a sweetener that some studies have shown will reduce cavities. You want to avoid products containing sugar in order to prevent the build-up of plaque.
• As a mouth rinse, use 50% water and 50% hydrogen peroxide as a mouth rinse. The hydrogen peroxide will help to kill bacteria that are the cause of bad breath.
Here you have it. These are just some of the ways that you can reduce or eliminate halitosis or bad breath.
